I did good when I was fresh out of school and striking out on my own just to afford a scoped rifle. It was many years before those luxury items such as binoculars and range finders could find their way into my possession. Realizing the advantages that a range finder offered, I decided I needed to improve my means of determining yardage. Looking through my 4X scope with post/dot reticle one day, it dawned on me that the relationship of the dot to the post never changed. The post was stepped, providing two or three different references. So I took a cardboard box, painted three lines on it so they were 18″ and 24″ apart (the height of average deer and elk chests, respectivley). I then took the box and placed it at various measured distances in 50 yard increments, ie; 100 yds, 150 yds, ……………………400 yds, looked through my scope referencing the spaced lines to my dot/post. I always held the dot even with the top line (top of back ), the idea being that after the yardage was determined, the shot could be made with just a slight movement of the dot (cross hair) up or down. This was all well and good, but I had to have a cheat sheet and time was lost that sometimes cost the shot. In my search for something that would shorten the yardage determination, I came across a trajectory chart. From this I learned that by sighting my 30-06 in to be right on at 25 yds it would be 3″ high at 100 yds, back on at 250 yds, approximately 6″ low at 300 yds, and approx. 16″ low at 350 yds. To the hunter this meant that I could make my shot out to 300 yds without ever having to hold off the body and at 350 yds the hold was the top of the back or just barely over. Now my required ranging information became very simple–know when the animal is more than 300 yds away. This meant place the box at 300 yds and learn the referenced size and then do the same for 350 yds. By just knowing these two referenced sizes, I could now make any shot out to 350 yds with confidence. Please understand that if you’re target shooting, this will not be precise enough. After all there is quite a difference between 2″ and 16″ of target. If you were to use this technique, you will need a reticle of a design that allows reference points and to know your rifle’s trajectory. I do hope that this simple technique helps you put meat in your freezer.
REMAIN STILL WHEN IT IS CRUCIAL
Does it seem to you that the insect repellent in your day-pack or vehicle is becoming less effective on those bug pests you face on every trip into the Great Outdoors. Well that is probably the truth, because it is a proven fact that insects build an immunity to chemicals. These chemicals are poisons that are formulated at tolerable levels for us to spray on our families and our animals. In a nut shell, we spray ourselves and our animals with poison to keep a little tiny insect from biting us (now what is wrong with this picture). There is nothing worse than being in your stand or looking through your optic, after spraying yourself with your poison , and have the effectiveness of the repellent wear-off. Here you are at a time when it is a matter of success or failure to remain prefectly still, gritting your teeth and saying to yourself “This isn’t going to bother me – I’m not moving, so just go over there and bite that elk – can’t you see it doesn’t bother me – you’re not bothering me – now go on you little *(*#*@!* get away from me” (slap) (swat). What we have here is the ruination of a prefect trek into the Great Outdoors. Are you tired of spraying yourself and your loved ones with poisonous chemicals that do not work. Well there is a better way – it is the use of 100% Natural Bug Repellent that is completely safe for you, your pets, and your environment and is effective on all biting insects. Plus you get the added bonus of smelling like the woods (natural cedar odor). So there you have it; no more pests biting you, your family, or your animals while at home or in the Great Outdoors and best of all no using poisons to stop the biting when you use Natures Defender Products.
